Texas Restaurant Awards Celebrate Culinary Excellence and Community Impact

Honoring the state's top chefs, restaurateurs, and industry champions

The 2025 Texas Restaurant Awards, held on July 20 at Houston's 713 Music Hall, celebrated the individuals and establishments that define the state's vibrant culinary scene.

 

George Christie of Christie's Seafood & Steaks in Houston and Cathy Painter Cace of Cace's Kitchen in Longview were inducted into the Hall of Honor, recognizing their decades of ethical leadership and community service.

 

Allison and Jeff Balfour of Southerleigh Hospitality Group in San Antonio received the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year award for their innovative growth and commitment to local sourcing.

 

Gary LeBlanc of Mercy Chefs was honored with the Community Impact Award for mobilizing volunteers and meals during crises.

 

Alicia Kelso of Nation's Restaurant News was named Excellence in Journalism honoree for her influential reporting on foodservice trends.

 

Deborah Williamson of James Provisions in Hurst won the Rising Star Award for her fresh approach to Modern American cuisine.

 

The Deep in the Heart Award went to Scott Moore, Greg Moore, and Michelle Holland of Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue in Tomball, celebrating excellence beyond major metro centers.

 

Educational leadership was spotlighted with Chef Carlos Ramos of Milby High School taking the Chef Tim Kelly Award for Educator Excellence.

 

Key industry allies were also recognized: Ben E. Keith Foods as Outstanding Partner of the Year; former Texas state senator Kelly Hancock as Restaurant Industry Champion; Andy Merrett of Raising Cane's for the Spirit of Generosity Award; and Blanca Aldaco of Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine claiming the Skeeter Miller Excellence in Advocacy Award.

 

These honorees exemplify the passion, innovation, and community spirit driving Texas's 57,000-plus restaurants.

 

In related news, Thomas Bille of Belly of the Beast in Spring was named Best Chef: Texas at the 2025 James Beard Awards, highlighting the state's culinary excellence.

 

Additionally, Gaido's Seafood Restaurant in Galveston was honored with the America's Classics Award, recognizing its longstanding contribution to Texas's dining heritage.

 

These accolades underscore the dynamic and diverse nature of Texas's restaurant industry.
