Seven UTRGV Women's Tennis Players Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors; Team Recognized as All-Academic |
Vaqueros' commitment to excellence shines in both academics and athletics |
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team has been honored as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, reflecting their dedication to both sport and scholarship.
Achieving this distinction required the team to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher during the 2024-25 academic year.
Notably, the Vaqueros surpassed this benchmark with an impressive 3.67 GPA.
In addition to the team accolade, seven student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for achieving individual GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
These honorees include Mariia Bakhtina, Kristal Dule, Madeleine Joffe, Rhea Makesar, Hitakamya Narwal, Valentina Urraco, and Yaiza Vazquez.
Balancing rigorous academic programs with the demands of collegiate athletics, these athletes exemplify the university's commitment to holistic student development.
Head Coach West Nott expressed pride in his team's achievements, stating, "Our student-athletes have demonstrated exceptional dedication both on the court and in the classroom. Their hard work and commitment to excellence are truly commendable."
Beyond academic success, the UTRGV women's tennis team actively engages with the Rio Grande Valley community.
In October 2023, they hosted a free youth clinic in Harlingen, welcoming 70 children from Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties.
Such initiatives underscore the team's dedication to fostering a love for tennis among local youth and strengthening community ties.
As the Vaqueros prepare for the upcoming season, they carry forward a legacy of excellence, both academically and athletically, serving as role models for aspiring student-athletes in the region. |
