Preservation Texas is thrilled to kick off nominations for its prestigious 2025 Honor Awards, a biennial celebration that shines a light on the state's most inspiring preservation champions and projects. From dedicated individuals to groundbreaking restorations, these awards honor excellence in historic preservation, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and innovative infill developments. Mark your calendars for the grand ceremony on Thursday, October 30, in vibrant San Antonio, where winners will be celebrated amid Texas' rich heritage.
"Our Honor Awards are more than accolades—they're a beacon for preservation passion across Texas," shares Samantha Hunick, Programs Coordinator at Preservation Texas. "We're calling on communities, organizations, and everyday heroes to nominate those who've transformed our historic landscapes." Whether it's advocacy, education, or hands-on trades, these stories deserve recognition and inspire future efforts statewide.
The awards fall into two exciting categories: Individual Awards and Preservation Project Awards. Individual honors spotlight excellence in advocacy, heritage education, trades, media, or public service, reviewed by the Preservation Programs Committee—with one winner per category, except for media which allows multiples. Self-nominations are encouraged, making it accessible for all passionate preservers.
Preservation Project Awards recognize recent triumphs in restoration, rehabilitation, reconstruction, or thoughtful infill within historic contexts. Projects must be completed in the last three years and align with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, judged by a panel of expert architects and professionals. There's no cap on winners, ensuring every deserving effort gets its due.
Nominations close on Friday, September 12, with fees starting at $50 for members on Individual Awards and $75 for projects—non-members pay a bit more. Visit preservationtexas.org/honorawards to dive in, submit your story, and help preserve Texas' timeless treasures. Don't miss this chance to elevate the guardians of our past! |
