Abbott Names Harlingen 87th Music Friendly Texas Community

Designation set to boost local jobs, tourism, and community spirit through the power of music

Exclusive

Harlingen has officially joined the Music Friendly Texas program as its 87th certified community, Governor Greg Abbott announced on July 22 in Austin. The multi‑step certification by the Texas Music Office aims to drive music‑related economic development, job creation, and tourism across the state.

Key Details:

  • Harlingen joins a network launched in 2016 to recognize cities that support live music venues, music businesses, and cultural events

  • Texas music industry generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity and sustains more than 196,000 permanent jobs

  • Local leaders—from Representative Oscar Longoria to Mayor Norma Sepulveda—highlighted the designation’s role in strengthening the economy, building community identity, and expanding family‑friendly entertainment options

As a certified Music Friendly Texas community, Harlingen will gain access to marketing support, industry partnerships, and program resources designed to help local promoters, venues, and artists thrive—uniting residents and visitors alike around the shared power of live music.
